About Susana Gonzalez Edmond

Susana is a proven leader with more than 20 years of experience in education, public affairs, and community engagement. She is running for the Long Beach City College Board of Trustees because she believes in the power of education to transform lives and strengthen communities.

Susana’s story is one of perseverance and purpose. She is a proud daughter of immigrant parents and the first in her family to go to college.  She is deeply connected to the mission of public higher education, where she started her career and strongly believes postsecondary education is vital to economic opportunity.  Susana is a proud graduate of Cal State Long Beach where she earned a Masters Degree in Public Policy and Administration, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Cal State San Marcos and an AA Degree from Southwestern College.

Earlier in her career, as Executive Director of the California State Student Association (CSSA), she led statewide advocacy for student access and affordability before the state legislature and the California State University (CSU) Board of Trustees.  Most recently, Susana served as President of the Long Beach Council of Parents and Teachers Association (LBCPTA) supporting PTAs in Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD).  Each role has strengthened her commitment to fairness, fiscal responsibility, and student-centered leadership.

Susana leads a public relations and strategic communications firm that partners with education, government, and nonprofit organizations to advance equity, transparency, and public trust. She previously served as Chief Officer of Public Affairs for the Museum of Latin American Art, where she helped secure ten million dollars in state funding to expand arts and education programs.  Susana has a strong background in public service, she is a former City of Long Beach commissioner and serves on various Long Beach nonprofit boards.

Her story reflects perseverance, purpose, and a lifelong commitment to public service.  Above all, Susana is a proud wife and mother of two, driven by her belief that education builds pathways not just for individuals, but for entire communities.
